Zojirushi CD-FAC22 Zutto Micom Electric Dispensing Pot Review

(More customer reviews)I've used this pot for some months now on a near daily basis and had absolutely no problems. It is a must for the tea enthusiast. Not only is it more stylish than most dispensing pots, it is in a league of it's own for selecting temperature and sustaining temperature over time. It is quick to boil, and can silently keep your water ready for tea for all-day use.
The cost of this pot is higher than your average boiling pot, but it shows in the extra features and in the build quality. The pump action is a much-loved feature, as is the break-away safety cord (all appliances should have such a cord in my opinion). You can just tell that the people that designed this knew what they were doing and cared.
On the downside, I wish for 3 things: 1) the ability to set the temp to more degrees (such as between 160 and 180 for green tea instead of 140); 2) an on-off switch instead of always just disconnecting the cord; and 3) a slightly deeper indent behind the spout so that more tea pots can easily fit under the spout.
If you are serious about tea, buy this unit.

Rival 4071-WN 32-Ounce Hot Pot Express Review

(More customer reviews)I bought one of these close to ten years ago and it's still going strong, though I've taken it on three cross-country trips, countless weekend getaways and even to Guatemala.
Why? First, I don't like using hotel/motel coffee units -- who knows how clean their innards are? This holds more liquid, is easy to clean, and I know where it's been!
Second, it's useful for more than just heating water. I once took my daughter to a nice Disneyland hotel for four days, and did all our cooking in this little pot because food was so pricey. I heated soup, ramen, veggies, all kinds of things... and we actually ate well (though simply) the whole time.
Other reviewers have noted that it doesn't have auto shut-off. That's a good point, and it's a bit of a pain, particularly when you're as forgetful as I am. But the water always boils loudly enough that I hear it. Could be a problem in everyday use if you are wandering from room to room; fine for a motel.
The flip side is being able to adjust the heat level, which I don't think you could do if the unit shut off automatically. I've found that VERY handy for things that need a gentle heat, and use that feature a lot.
Power cord is frustratingly short, but necessarily so for safety reasons.
Naturally, anything that holds 32 oz. of water is a little bulky, but when I put it in my suitcase I just jam socks and breakables into it, so it ends up taking less room than you'd think. You can snap the top off, which is also a help when packing it. It's fairly lightweight.
The reason I'm back at this page is that my daughter just went to college and took the pot with her. I need a replacement for my travels without her! I was amazed to find the same pot is still being sold after all these years. That's probably a good sign about its quality in an era when things get redesigned every year.
At this price, if it lasted a year or two of steady use, I think I'd still be happy.

(More customer reviews)Having grown up in a household with a hot water tap, I'm used to having near-boiling water available at all times - except on Shabbat, when, a rabbi told my mother, the tap could not be used (years later, a different rabbi, who had a different understanding of how the technology worked, told me it is permissible!). So once I was on my own, some sort of urn or electric pump pot was a must. I bought this one to replace an old one that died, and am pleasantly surprised by the new features, including the instant dispense button and switch (although they can't be used on Shabbat either, as they make a light go on, but you can still pump out water by pressing the original spot), and the concave front, which allows your cup or teapot to nestle up close. The price is right, the unit works, and my only concern is that I'll run out of water before Shabbat is over! In fact, I just bought another one as a Mother's Day gift and presented it today (now it can be told!).

Sunbeam 6131 Hot Shot Hot Water Dispenser Review

(More customer reviews)I've used a Hot Shot a whole lot for heating up water for drinking various types of tea and other beverages. If it's right for what you're brewing, it really is a great product--the water is heated within a minute or two, which is way faster than a kettle, and it holds the perfect amount for a large mug.
There are a couple things to note though. Like other reviewers have said, because of the product's design, some taller mugs (especially large vacuum-sealed caddy mugs) won't fit in to receive the water, so you either can't use them or have to dispense the water into another container first and pour it from there. Also, you definitely should empty the excess water after you're done--you might even want to open the lid while it's still warm to let the extra moisture evaporate. This is because the inside is metal, and re-re-reheated water that's been sitting in there gets a bit gross and might not be the healthiest.
The last issue, which affects me more than it may others, is that the Hot Shot heats the water to boiling or very near to boiling. This is great if you're drinking black tea, hot chocolate, or hot cider, but if you're drinking green tea (which takes hot water that is well below boiling), the water from the Hot Shot can be too hot and make the tea bitter. If it's right for the beverage you want to make, though, I can't recommend a more convenient or quick option.

This heater worked fabulously on a 3 week trip to Peru at 220 voltage, and a week in Jamaica at 110, and is still going strong. It can bring water to boiling surprisingly fast. It takes up very little space in the suitcase too. I'm taking this baby with me everywhere I travel.

My mother had one of these 20 years ago until it gave out a few years back. I purchased this item for my husband for Christmas. He couldn't wait to open it and so we've been using it for the past couple of weeks. I wish I'd bought it sooner. My husband was given a Cuisinart stainless steel Grind & Brew several years ago. Fabulous machine. However, a couple of years ago my husband found that despite his being the only coffee drinker (at the time) in the house, that it was 100% MY responsibility to keep the machine clean and ready for morning brewing. I got tired of this and last year he "discovered" the pleasure of Nescafe Classico instant coffee.
Lazy to boil water in the pot, he'd microwave his cups of water, never bothering to boil me a cup. I've been searching for months for a nice airpot and found this. Unfortunately, I didn't go online in my search and bought one at my favorite Chinese supermarket in Dallas. I paid over $75 when I could have found one online for close to $30 less. However, I have to say that I'm 100% satisfied with this product. It's incredibly convenient. Great for coffee, tea, hot chocolate & malt drinks, not to mention ramen noodles & other instant food items or frozen veggies that require de-frosting. Why didn't I get this sooner????? So easy to use. The only wish I had is that it came in a larger capacity. I love it so much that I use it all the time and have to keep filling it up!
Well worth the money paid. Extremely convenient. Easy to use. Looks great.

To avoid build-up in the pot, I fill it with purified water instead of tap water. I've had it for several months and I haven't had to clean out any deposits yet.

Capresso H2O Pro Programmable Cordless 56-Ounce Water Kettle with Variable Temperature Control Review

(More customer reviews)After seeing warnings against another variable temperature kettle (branded by a major tea vendor) that's totally hit-or-miss by 20 degrees, I was cautiously hopeful that Capresso's H2O Pro would avoid that problem.
When this kettle arrived, I decided to play the skeptic and put to test it. Would it really hit 140F on the dot? Just a little above/below? A lot?
After a short brew time, *two* other thermometers (one analog, one digital) agreed with the kettle: 140.0F on the dot!
This is one excellently designed variable-temperature kettle! This kettle has now brought about more casual tea drinking. No more do I have to watch a stove or electric kettle like a hawk and stop it at the right temperature!
Temperatures are programmable in 10F increments from 110F (warm on the wrist) to 212F (boiling). I like to make tea with 140F (a bit over scalding) as I use plenty of Japanese green tea that is temperature-sensitive. And I love how it can also be programmed to keep the same temperature continuously (or not, as you please).
I only have 2 snags with this kettle:
- At the temperatures I like, increments in 5, 2 or 1 degree make better sense than 10 degree increments.
- When taking the kettle off its base, it resets its temperature defaults to 212 (boiling). I'd prefer that it automatically kept my preferences while I'm pouring the occasional cup throughout the day. But that's just me. Turning it to the preferred temp again is just a few thumb-wiggles away (which makes the 10-degree increments a balance of convenience).
Since no other variable-temp kettle I can find on the market is better than this one, these are just would-likes and don't detract from what I feel is a kettle at the head of its market.

(More customer reviews)This is a marvelous appliance because it is just so darn simple! I bought one to keep in my office at work for making tea, and it has worked out great!
There isn't even an on/off switch. Just put water in it, plug it in, and a red light goes off when it is ready to pour. Put a mug under the dispenser, push the lever, and there you go!
One reviewer said that it does not have a fill-to line, and so water can spill over. I don't see this as a problem. Just heat as much water as you need. I fill up my mug with hot water, pour the water into the appliance, and dispense the water when it is hot back into the mug. Oddly enough, I get out exactly the same amount as I put in! Don't try to heat more than 16 ounces at a time.
The Hot Shot does only one thing, but boy does it do it well! Easy to use, simple to clean, and attractive on the counter. Love having hot tea without fussing with heating water in the office microwave!

Zojirushi #CD-K03EJU Inner Container Cleaner for Electric Pots, 4 Packets Review

(More customer reviews)We have a 5L Zoji hot water pot and recently, used 1 packet (per directions) of this stuff to clean it. It worked great! We did do the cleaning cycle twice, just to be sure we got all the lime scale out. We have hard water, use the pot daily and after several months, it was EXTREMELY scaled up inside. For those who were wondering... This product is just 100% pure granular citric acid. Nothing else. Citric acid is also called SOUR SALT. The same stuff you would use for canning, cooking Jewish foods, etc. Each packet contains 30 grams or 2 tablespoons. There are 4 packets per box, 120 grams total or 4.23 ounces. Citric acid is available in powdered and various granular forms (for VARIOUS prices). This granular product had about the texture of regular table salt. Any form would work just fine. First, you need to dissolve this product in 1 cup or 240 ml warm water. Next, fill pot with plain water to just below max fill line and pour citric acid mixture into inner container. Then, turn on unit and warm for 1-3 hours. Dump water, then refill with fresh water, bring to a boil, dispense a cup (240ml) or so, to flush dispenser tube and pump, then dump remaining water. KEEP WIRE FILTER PLUG IN PLACE DURING ENTIRE PROCESS, IF YOUR UNIT IS SO EQUIPPED. Zojirushi says to use the programed cleaning cycle and follow the directions in your owner's manual, if your unit has this feature. Also, to adjust the amount of citric acid and the length of warming time, depending on the amount of scale in your pot. Zoji says this product may be used for all brands of water pots, probably because they are all made the same in one or two factories. Clean as a whistle, when done! Looks and works like new! Easy, too! Hope this is helpful! PS: It clearly states in the owners manual NOT to use vinegar (instead of citric acid) to clean your pot, as it will permanently damage your pots inner coating.

Zojirushi CD-LCC50 Instant Hot Water Dispensers (5.0 L) - Black Review

(More customer reviews)I bought one of these for work. It lives in an office breakroom and gets plenty of use. In this environment, you want the biggest one you can get, or the easiest to refill. 5L is a win. Ease of refill on this unit is so-so if your spigot or whatever can't clear its tall height. It boils, gets to temp, and maintains temp just great. The lid removes for easier fill. Easy to tell how full/empty it is. I like the magnetic power coupling a lot. Has settings for 208, 195, and 175 deg F - enough flexibility, although the 175 is a touch hot for green tea. Weakness: the "timer" has only one setting: "off now, and then turn on (to stay) 7 hours from now." This timer is essentially a not-very-funny joke. There is no real time clock, no auto-on, no auto-off. Uses about 50W to keep water hot (the 4L CV-DSC40 is better insulated but more expensive). Has a handle for carrying (even hot & full) and has a built-in turntable underneath. Unit is completely satisfactory and good enough to make me want a better. Also won't go back to traditional kettle.

Its power is 1500 Watts, which is higher than many comparable kettles.This is a big advantage, as it means that it comes to the boil more quickly. (It's well worth checking the power of kettles before buying them. Some are painfully slow!)
For us, though, there was, unfortunately, one problem. We use our kettle for all sorts of purposes, but mainly for making traditional British tea and we found that after a day or so, the tea tasted odd. My adult son was the first to point it out. I didn't want to believe it, as I loved the kettle. But in the end I was unable to deny it any longer. The tea definitely didn't taste right, even to me.
I did some searching online and found other comments about a "metallic" taste and suggestions for eliminating it. e.g. Boil up lemon juice in the water, and so on. I did try that and it did diminish the scale that had already started to build up. But for us, it still didn't solve the taste problem. I don't know whether the scale was what caused it. If so, the kettle might work well for those who live in soft water areas, or who use water filters. It might also be fine for you if you aren't a tea drinker, or fussy about the taste of your tea.
I hate to write anything negative in a review, but feel I owe it to fellow tea-drinkers to point out this problem! We have kept the kettle, because it's still useful and fast at boiling water for other purposes. But we no longer use it for tea-making. Sorry.

(More customer reviews)We graduated from a Zojirushi "vacuum" pot where you have to press on the top to dispense. At first I thought the electronic dispensing was gimmicky but WOW- it really is worth it. Three temp settings (208F, 180F, 140F) are nice as is the temp readout so you know when the water is almost ready.
Like our old one, there is a water level indicator on the outside so you can tell how much is left without opening it up.
I wonder if the insulation is as good as our old one as it seems a little warmer on the outside - more likely is that our old one didn't go up to 208F.
Personally I would have liked a different appearance. Plain white perhaps or silver / stainless. That's the closest I have to a complaint.
Useful tip: The top comes off and the contents empty easily into a pot - a feature I often use to "kick start" a batch of pasta, etc.
Cleaning tip: to descale, you can save a lot of vinegar by putting a mason jar or other heat resistant jar inside (Think about how putting a brick in a toilet saves water) This way you still get the depth of vinegar but use a lot of it.

(More customer reviews)What we have here is just another made in China item from an unworthy manufacturer.
1) This "stainless steel / glass" kettle does contain small plastic parts on the inside below the water line.
2) While there is a plate on the inside at the bottom over the heating element, the plate seems to be made of an inferior material. It developed spots (looks like rust to me) after the first couple of uses.
3) There is a gap / seam around that plate on the inside at the bottom where water can collect and stay in invisible / inaccessible places.
4) These parts of the kettle are just about impossible to wipe down because of narrow height of the kettle and lid design.
5) Some water will always stay in the kettle no matter how you try to empty it because of lid / spout design.
6) Not made in USA
The kettle retains a 2nd star since it does boil water quickly and does seem solid. The design of the external base is pleasing. The toggle switch on the kettle itself is sexy.
It is, however, by no means "green," healthy or made by a trustworthy manufacturer. The chamber which contains the water is NOT made out of solid, stable non-reactive materials. At this very moment it is probably leaching chemicals including toxins from plastics, nickel, glues, or coatings into the water. I'm looking for a replacement...
