(More customer reviews)We bought this Hyundai Air Conditioner to solve a problem on the boat. Our sailboat is old enough that it did not have an air conditioner in it and to retrofit it would be time consuming, invasive, and expensive. We have looked at air conditioners that fit into a hatch over the main salon, basically a drop-in unit: however, a drop-in unit is not there only when you need it. Since we stand on the cabin to pull up the sails or even have lots of people sitting around on it, we were worried that the hatch would be in the way. It would definitely be bulky and inhibit our line of sight from the cockpit. This air conditioner was an inexpensive solution to a complex problem.
This air conditioner pumps out cold air reliably. It filled the main salon with cool comfortable air within minutes and took only a few more minutes to reach the V-berth.
It is also extremely portable: since it is on wheels, it is easy to move around and into storage. Because a sailboat tilts occasionally, we also had to find a way to contain it while having access to it while we are in port. We have stowed it in the shower that we hardly ever use and have caught it from falling out with bungee cords. When we are at anchor, it fits under the table in the main salon.
The two pieces for the window baffle placed vertically fit exactly in one direction and almost perfectly in the other. For horizontal, it turned out to be exactly the width of our hatch board - which had to be completely serendipitous. For horizontal, it had to be shortened by 1 and ? inches. This allows for the hot air to be exhausted into the cockpit.
We've had an amazing heat wave in Michigan this year so this air conditioner has been a perfect addition to our boat, making it more comfortable to sleep on at night, especially when we have the boat in another port and we don't feel as comfortable leaving the boat open all night. It has been easy to use and easy to stow away when we don't need it.

(More customer reviews)My wife and I were replacing two Panasonic Air Conditioners with two new Sharp Ones. We read that Sharp generally makes very good A/C's.
Wow were we disappointed. This A/C was so loud and did not cool the room down as well as our older Panasonic A/C's. The fan was so load that we had to turn the machine off when eating dinner because we could not have a conversation. In the bedroom it was difficult to sleep with the A/C on because of the fan. The sound is like a hair drier.
We returned these A/C's and purchased two from Amana, the only Manufacture we found who listed the noise level (50dB) on their product description. We found them are J&R the only store we found who actually has the A/C's on display connected so you can hear them.

(More customer reviews)I've had this Sharp portable air conditioner for a couple of years now. Without a doubt, it's proved to be worth every cent I spent on it. I had another name brand air conditioner that died not long after I purchased it and this was the replacement. These units are heavy and delivery right to your door is a real plus!
My favorite feature is the Mega Cool feature. If you want to cool down in a hurry simply putting the air conditioner on this setting will start cooling down a room in minutes (I personally sit right in front of it during this process!).
It has a remote control with a digital readout. You can put it on a timer, operate the fan, louvers, dehumidifier, etc. The vertical louvers need to be adjusted manually. The filters pull out readily and are easy to clean. When not using the remote there is an indentation in the back for secure storage. This is a very sleek, attractive unit and I prefer it to the white. The booklet included is very comprehensive, well illustrated and comes in English and Spanish.
I have had this unit in two different settings. It obviously is meant to be set up in double-hung and sliding sash windows, but we were able to set it up in a sliding glass door (a little ingenuity goes a long way). We cut a pine board vertically to fit the opening between the wall track and the door and cut a hole for the window exhaust adapter. After the "installation" we used duct tape around the adapter. After we closed the door we simply replaced the stick in the track with a shorter one so the door could not be easily opened from the outside (if you are in a high crime area I wouldn't recommend this set up).
I had two different portable air conditioners before this one and I'm quite pleased with this unit!
