(More customer reviews)I think this is the greatest invention! Just to have the option of cooling yourself down (wherever you go) right in the palm of your hand is amazing. I can't tell you how many times i have to spend the night at my mom's or grandma's house and they've got the air set at 79 degrees (which is much too hot for me to sleep) in the middle of summer. Or like when my mom came to see my band play in D.C. and we had to stay in the same hotel room... that little device saved my life that night! So all in all, I think this is well worth the money. It won't blast freezing air at you, but it definitely does what it says. Oh - my only complaint is the color in the picture looks more red than pink. When I ordered it (thinking it was more red), I got a pink that looks like something you'd find in a ladies purse... So men, don't be deceived!

(More customer reviews)This product is an amazing innovation. It might not resemble any sort of product you see on the Walmart shelves, but it sort of looks like a hand held camera. It's actually a little air cooler that helps cool air by using a cooling filter that needs water refilled every couple of hours.
It's great for people to are always on the go, or for those of you who can't bear the outdoor heat. I go back to Japan every year, and I'm surprised I finally see something in the states that Japan does not have yet! YES very surprising.
Anyhow, I decided to do my first video review. Please be easy on your comments. Before I bought this, I was confused how this thing works. The description says to add water to the device, but it isn't very clear on how this is done. You basically have to manually remove the cover and pour water onto the cooling pad which can be quite troublesome when you are outside. I hope this video gives a better understanding.
Funny how the unit sounds really noisy in the clip whilst in real life it really isn't noisy at all. The unit is barely noticeable while I work on my computer. Sometimes its so quiet that I even forget that I left it turned on.
The cooling test part was performed with a dual reading thermometer. It was a rather-cool-day, the temp was around 76 degree F, and 55% RH. The cooling it produced was 10F. If you used it in a hotter and drier place, the air coming out can be alot cooler. Fair enough, at quite a `cool' room temperature the unit doing 10F temperature is quite comfortable, especially when you are irritated from your sweating underwear!

To me, they are indispensable in maintaining a more comfortable environment, especially as a cubicle dweller at work. They move an easily adequate volume of air - I rarely turn it above the low speed setting. One kind of nice side benefit is that the sound from the fan, while obviously not silent, does create a "white noise" that is somewhat effective in drowning out ambient sounds while not being annoying. If you are looking for a small footprint fan for a space inside of 8x8', this one is highly recommended.

(More customer reviews)This is my first Vornado purchase. I just found about about this brand from a person in my office. She had a smaller unit, but also a smaller office, and it worked very well on the lowest speed.
This thing is _heavy_. It feels very well constructed, and not at all "chintzy" like the usual $20 fans. On the lowest speed it's amazingly quiet from ~5 feet away.
The only thing I dislike is the noise generated by the middle and high speeds--but that's really rather a non-issue, as it's perfectly capable of circulating the air in an entire 10 x 10 room on the low setting.
As my coworker put it, it's an "air circulator" moreso than a fan; you don't point it directly at you. Rather, angle it somewhere else in the room, from a bit away, and the entire room gets a nice, gentle breeze. I was quite skeptical of this idea, thanks to all the inefficient, cheap fans I've purchased over the years, but this idea WORKS. I stay cooler throughout the day--and my papers aren't constantly blowing off my desk Neat!
Overall I'm very happy with this purchase, and would recommend others to consider this over a cheap fan you'll be replacing in a year once again.
This isn't cheap, but I feel I received very good value for the money spent overall.

Handy Cooler is the perfect travel/everyday must-have. It weighs a little over 4 ounces I would say. The size of the handy cooler is astonishing for an air cooler. It is about the size of a water bottle and the handle fits very well. I love how you can adjust the angle of the blowout direction. The air that comes out is cooler than fans, and it doesn't come off too strong. However, don't expect it to be as cold as and as powerful as a full-size AC.

GET IT WORKING
It works by evaporation. For cool air, you need to wet the sponge with the mini-bottle provided or wet it with water over the sink. I think it might even be a good idea to put it in the fridge for a while so that the air that comes out is even cooler.

BATTERIES
It can be powered by plugging it into a computer with the USB cord provided, or by 4 AA batteries which lasts about 5 hours. You can even purchase a 6V wall adapter for it.

CONCLUSION

I didn't think a company would sell me a fan for 200.00!!! I'm so "HOT" right now(pun intended). According to the description you would be led to believe that this unit is a bit more than a fan. There is absolutely no need for this product, it is absolutely unneccasary. It's less than a fan! A fan covers more area than this box of nothing. It is described as an air cooler that can handle approx 150 square feet. That's a lie! I called the company and they told me that depending on where you live it might not work! If you are in the market for something more than a fan this is not the product for you. The sad thing is I paid extra for shipping and I have to pay to send it back to them I'm gonna be out of 73 bucks!!!. Choose wisely.

The concept is good, especially the water bottle (no chemicals here) but the execution is horrible. The "fan" is too small to actually blow off cold air. I wasn't expecting it to cool down an entire room but I shouldn't be sitting in front of it and still be hot and sweating. If you're working in an area that is already using AC then this might work because it will probably pick up and circulate the cold air but it won't do anything if the air is warm.

What makes it so nifty is it works on a car charger,(included) regular a/c (included) OR D batteries! 3 different power sources in one make it very portable and usable in different situations. The fans themselves are small yet its quite powerful and you can angle the bottom fan up or down and the top one left to right..the mist comes out in the middle and is VERY cooling and refreshing, (esp if u used chilled water) Now it does say that the misting last for some ridicules amount of time like 10 hours. That's wrong, you have to fill up the bottle about every hour to 2 hours and SOMETIMES esp on the intermittent misting feature it will stop misting and u have the give the bottle a little twist or tap. Still though living in HOT n HUMID FL I find it's an item I cannot live without and on dryer days it doubles as a humidifier, have used in the house and as long as your not setting it next to electronics it doesn't get anything soaking or dripping wet. Also a great item to cool off your car on a hot day and even ad to the a/c. And the the D battery feature is portable enough to take outside for gardening, to cool pets and great for power outages-storms etc. My only little complainants is I the black plastic fans seem a little cheap-I wouldn't adjust them a lot and I believe the ad or box say they oscillate and they don't, you have to manually adjust them into position and like I said the water/misting isn't as advertised for how long it lasts and does clog every now and again and just an FYI it's pretty noisy esp, when misting (but that doesn't bother me) and I would have to say item is easily 20 bucks over priced, if it were not for that I would have given it 5 stars. BUT EVEN at the listed price its a practical and versatile and EFFECTIVE item and I highly recommend. I don't camp but it would be PERFECT for camping! I can think of MANY uses for this item!
I do want to update my review over year later here in May 2010. I did have to send the first one back as it stopped misting in a short period of time. The seller did ship another one out pronto and it worked great. On my second fan, after many months of use and a bump or two being moved here and there, the top fan stopped working, tho it still mists and the bottom fan works. And now that Ive had it I have many times wanted to put ice in the water jug and you cant as the cap is too small, chilled water does work fine. Still tho I am a believer in this product for personal use/power outages (its been a real livesaver as I HATE being HOT) Ive also noted that the price has gone up even more since I bought mine. THE PRICE IS A TOTAL RIP FOR WHAT IT IS. Dont get me wrong, I still love it and use it, and wanted to buy another one, BUT NOT AT THIS PRICE. This fairly needs to be in the 20 to 30 dollar price range! Still a good product to have around but keep in mind its tall and small and meant for ONE PERSON ONLY sitting right in front of it.
